Beyond the Accolade: How Your Brand Can Build a Stronger Community

Corey Dortch welcomes attendees and awardees to the 2025 “40 Under 40 Luncheon” in Athens.

Some moments feel truly full-circle. This year’s University of Georgia Homecoming was one of them. As we celebrated the 2025 Class of UGA's 40 Under 40, I had the honor of welcoming a new generation of leaders into a tradition that holds deep personal meaning.

Being named to the 40 Under 40 list in 2012 was a humbling recognition. Seeing my wife, Amelia, receive the same honor in 2017 amplified what this community truly represents: a powerful, multi-generational network of leaders dedicated to making an impact.

This experience is a powerful reminder that personal branding isn't just about personal gain; it's about building a legacy of service. Accolades like "40 Under 40" are the result of a brand built on leadership, innovation, and commitment. However, their true value is realized when you leverage that platform to open doors for others and strengthen your community.

A strong professional network isn’t simply a collection of contacts—it’s an ecosystem of influence and support. The real work begins after the award. It's about using your visibility to mentor, collaborate, and contribute to the enduring spirit of the communities you belong to.

Congratulations to this year’s honorees. Your leadership is a testament to this spirit. Now is the time to harness your brand and your network to continue the important work of leaving things better than you found them.
