Walking in Purpose: Reflections from the 100 Honors Gala

Pinky Cole Hayes, founder of Slutty Vegan and recipient of the John Lewis Emerging Leader Award shares remarks during the 100 Honors Gala.

On October 3, we had the privilege of attending the 100 Black Men of Atlanta’s 100 Honors Gala, a powerful evening celebrating leadership, community, and the transformative impact of investing in our youth. Held at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta, this year’s event expanded into a full Weekend Experience—including a vibrant silent auction, After Glow celebration, and soulful Sunday Jazz Brunch—all in support of Project Success, the organization’s flagship scholars program.

The theme, “Investing in Our Youth, Building a Legacy of Excellence,” was brought to life through stories of perseverance and triumph shared by the scholars and honorees alike.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came from Pinky Cole Hayes, founder of Slutty Vegan and recipient of the John Lewis Emerging Leader Award. In her remarks, she reminded us:

“My tired is not John Lewis’s tired… When I look at the positioning, I realize it wasn’t positioning—it is purpose.”

That message resonated deeply. It’s easy to get caught up in the challenges of building something—whether a business, a movement, or a community—but purpose keeps us steady.

At Hines Dortch Consulting, we believe that same spirit drives true growth: staying steadfast through challenges, lifting others as we climb, and leading with purpose. Because as Pinky reminded us, when we climb, we can lift.
